Space frame detailing

Dear All,

Anyone can help me to modeling the space frame in AECOsim or ProStructures, with connection as picture below. I upload one drawing with autocad file model in 3d for refer

Thanks

  • I did that manually. I'll get a video done, might take me a few more days to get it done. I think we can get the position, cut length and weight. I don't think we can automatically get the angle of the frame connected to the nodes (the spheres I used in the model).

I'd have to try the single part drawing, we can generate drawings from the model, I'd have to see what the results would be in a model like this to get single parts.

Anyway, I'll see what I can model and report, but again, give me a few days.

  • Dear Paul,

Thanks you so much for your reply. In your model the connection made is automatic or manually? Can you show short tutorial for it?

About the fabrication data I needing are

    - for beam frame elements: BOM with position, cut length, weight, single part drawing ( if need )

    - for space node connector: angle of frame connected to node for all node in model result in excel.

    Thanks you so much

  • I'm wondering if this is a job for generative components? I did create a model, reference your dwg, used structural hex and hollow tubes and sphere solids. If I knew that I could copy a section of it to fill in the same configuration of the modules of it I would have gotten a lot more modeled.

So just to model it 'by hand' might take awhile, and some care, but it's doable. I'm not sure about the beams, are they a hex all the way through with a hollow tube around them, etc.?

Then I'm not sure the method I used gets the fabrication results you're needing, but if you take a look at the schedules utility—that's the information I'm getting reported.

I used AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition Update 2. Metric units, AU steel table. I spent about an hour (had to move on to my other projects), looking at the photo, thinking about how to model what I thought it looked like, then doing the modeling, basically tracing over the lines in the reference.

It would be good coordination with other disciplines.

  • Dear Marc Thomas,

This model will be use for fabrication include

    - The single part of beams

    - BOM

    - Detail for any sphere

    Thanks

  • Please can you confirm the purpose of the model, is it for structural analysis or design coordination?

    Regards

    Marc
