export to dwg - some help with the settings

I Have a file with:

  • Drawing Model: with external references attached;
  • Sheet Model: with the internal Drawing model attached, as well as soms external references.

The desired resulting dwg-file should be:

  • model space: the Drawing model with all references merged;
  • paper space: all external references merged, but the Drawing Model still a reference.

That way I have a file with no external references, but keeping the internal references as references.

I have done this before, but seem to struggle to do this again, any help on the dwg-export settings?

  • Hi Stefan,

    These settings work for us. We typically merge the attachments when sharing DWG format but you could change the 'Merge' settings in the attachments if you want to keep these as separate files.

    The key to keep the ACAD 'model space' and 'paper space' conventions in the converted file is the 'Retained' setting for  'Masked Attachments'

    Hope this helps you

  • HI Rodney

    I just tried this, but seems it results in 2 files:

    • dwg with
      • model space with all thing on the original drawing merged;
      • paper space with random size and viewport on the model space;
    • dwg with:
      • model space: empty;
      • paper space with all references merged, expect the original Drawing, of which some elements are merged.

    Something must be still missing...

    Attached are my settings (had to zip them or the upload failed).

  • Stefan,

    As far as I can see when I open your DWS file the settings for reference attachments are the same as what we are using.

    I'm not sure that I follow you when you say that you are seeing paper space with "random size"? What exactly do you mean by this?

    Does the original DGN file comprise a drawing model and a sheet model into which the drawing model, with references, is referenced?

    Also I am puzzled that you say you are getting two resulting files. Does this occur when you run the export only once?

  • Hi,

    I attached a file to show the setup I've got, to show you with file I want to export.

    With "Random" size I mean: In a dwg-file you always have the modelspace/paperspace setup, even when you didn't define a sheet and viewports and such. It looks like when in dwg you open the Paperspace for the 1st time, and you have an empty sheet with a default size and a random viewport showing the modelspace.

    This happens when exporting only once, I get 2 files.

    I do notice in the message center "unable to open seed file: C:/ProgramData/Bentley/AECOsimBuildingDesigner V8i SS4/WorkSpace/System/seed/transeed.dgn", this seems weird? Seems to refer to an old version of AECOsim? I can't find which variable this is, it's not in the .cfg file as I expected (since it's the only one we edited to change some variables).
