I Have a file with:
The desired resulting dwg-file should be:
That way I have a file with no external references, but keeping the internal references as references.
I have done this before, but seem to struggle to do this again, any help on the dwg-export settings?
Regarding the settings in the save as DWG dialog you can reference the following articles:

Hi David,
In my opinion this is a fault of MicroStation Connect Edition.
A few months ago I did some tests and compared the export settings between MicroStation SS4 and MicroStation CE U9.
With Connect Edition it is not possible to store a Drawing Model and Sheet Model in one dwg file.
I created a SR 7000783385 to this issue in May this year and the last response from Bentley is form Juli. It's still open.
I have the same impression. With the same settings in the old version, it results in a dwg with modelspace/paperspace as desired. In Connect, same settings result in 2 separate files.

Please can you post the settings that you used in V8i so we can make a comparison.
In the meantime does setting 'Non-Default Design Models' to 'Create Paper Space' help?
Marc
The settings I used are the ones Rodney Austin mentioned above (see screenshot in his post).
This "non default model" setting seems to help, since this results in 1 file with both models (however the sheet is the default model in my file, any way to redefine which is the default model?).
In V8i the setting 'Non-Default Design Models' is set to 'Create Separate Filees'.
But despite this setting after the conversion the DWG file structure is exactly the same as in DGN.
DGN:
DWG:
But the issue with CONNECT Edition is that it treats a Drawing Model as a Non-Default Design Model.
You may want to consider (re)posting this question on the MicroStation forum if you're finding that the results are identical outside of AECOsim.
