For site design of disabled accessible surfaces, we created a simple cell that would report the "elevation angle" of a line, using a field to capture the angle parameter of the line. In radians format, this angle is equivalent to the dimensionless slope for angles under about ten percent, making it perfect for labeling the slope of a ramp, for instance (0.0833) .
In SS6, this cell worked correctly, as the elevation angle was measured from the XY plane. This has apparently changed in CE U3, In the same file, the elevation angle now appears to incorporate the value of North somehow-- maybe by adding in the reciprocal (!)-- making it unusable. I was unable to adjust North to correct it however....
Is there a new way to calculate the elevation angle? Why would North affect an elevation parameter? Perhaps there is a better way to report the slope of a line directly.

If you are just willing to measure the angle of a line then you can use the 'Measure Angle' tool under 'Common Tools' from the ribbon to do so.

I could also just look at the properties and type something in, but you have missed my entire point.
The point was to have an automatic label of the physical elevation angle, that is updated as you manipulate the grade line, as design feedback.
The elevation angle gave us this information in SS6.
What has been changed in the CE? Is there a new method of controlling the display of the parameter? Please address the detailed question above

Steve-- didn't see this until last night. I have attach our cell library for site design. The relevant cells are titled "_RADIAN slope....". There is a right hand and left hand version. To use it you just place it, explode it and then adjust the endpoints of the blue layout line. The text is intended to show the slope in decimal format, which per the above equals the elevation angle in radians for small slopes. The text is just a field that grabs the "elevation angle" parameter of the layout line. this angle was measured from the horizontal in SS6, but has changed somehow in CE.

Steve, thanks for the video, you have done exactly what I have done. that's the way I want it to work.
In SS6 the elevation angle of the line was zero, just like yours was when you started. when you move the end point up the elevation angle parameter changes to the angle above the XY plane. I placed a bunch of these in SS6. When I open the same file in CE U3, the elevation angles are way different--a line with a SS6 slope of 0.0126r now shows 0.8678r.
A level line now has an elevation angle of 0.8552r, which equals 49 degrees. The North is set at 41 degrees, so somehow the elevation angle is affected by the North, which makes no sense. Notice that 49= 90-41. Just changing North to zero, 49 or 90 does not solve it---Please advise.

OK, this is an odd one.. granted, I've never really worked with the Elevation Angle property before, but it is odd is that when placing a line using Top orientation I get the same default .855r value, but I also see that value change as I drag around an end point still on Top orientation! As though "elevation" is not referring to the Z plane... More investigation required.
Oh, and I do see the same results using plain MicroStation Update 10, so it is something at the platform level. At the moment I just have no idea whatsoever what it could be!
