Setting up a build from scratch again and setting up the catalog to make it easier for users.
I like to be able to define the different option for steel placement via the catalog, but one comment I will make is that it's close to useless to do so if you can't define the different cardinal points in the catalog rather than just the member name.
Hi Bear,
Are you saying that you want member name along with placement position defined in the catalog, say something like, "114X4.5 CHS-Center,center" ?
In CONNECT Edition, the placement options appear in the ribbon and changes in placement point reflects in the preview window.
I know where they are, but I would like to be able to preset them, as with the member, in the catalog. There shouldn't be any need for the user to change the cardinal point if they select a catalog that changes the member.
Like what I have here.
Hi Sean,
If I understand you correctly, you should be seeing the same results in CONNECT Edition:
This was using the delivered AU dataset.
I'm not looking to do it via part and family though Steve. The way I see it I can\will set a default member at the family\part level. From there though, I would have 3-4 different member types and I don't want a different type for each and want to make it easier for users to select the members type and have everything set.
An example would be Structural Steel\Vertical Brace:
Base - CHS / Cardinal - CC / rotation - 0 (this would be the default set in the family\part, but also available as a catalog item.
Catalog item 2 - PFC / Cardinal - CB / rotation - 90
Catalog item 3 - equal angle / cardinal - CF / rotation - 180
And so on. The settings aren't correct, but you get the idea. As it stands users have to make the changes manually or you would need create a part of each variant, not what I see parts to be used for, especially when it comes to MTO's. It's already there, to an extent, in the catalog, it just needs to be opened up to more settings to be really usable.
Ah... I thought you included the V8i screen captures as a way of saying "it used to work like this".
In that case, this would have to take the form of an Enhancement request via an SR, since I believe that Family + Part definitions have always controlled justification.
From my point of view, there is no point having the catalog control only part of the settings. If you can set member name, then you need to be able to set things like rotation, cardinal points etc. I'll go ahead and raise an SR.
