I am new to Microstation. I have used AutoCAD for years. I have a dgn file of existing building elevations. There are some lines that seem to be "locked". They are visible but I cannot select them. I saved the dgn to a dwg file. These same elements disappeared in the transfer. I cannot figure out why this is. I don't know what to do short of drawing over these lines.
Hi Allen,
Are you using AECOsim or plain MicroStation, and which version? Is the DGN file one you created yourself or received from someone else?
as Steve wrote, without further information - at least the product you use, its version and in what product was used to create the file (if known) - it's hard to provide any advice. Also to know what exactly is displayed in the element tooltip when you hover over the element can help.
There are more possible reasons why an element is locked:

I am using AECOsim, V8. The dgn file I am using was created by someone else. When I hover over the element I see this in the tooltip: "Element is in a model that is not allowed by this tool"
We're still missing a few key bits:
- I'm assuming that's AECOsim V8i Ss6?
- Regarding the DGN file, do you which Bentley application and version was used to create it?
- When you see that tooltip, what tool are you using?
