Would it be possible to get the simple annotation symbols back that we had in SS6?
In particular I refer to the Building Section, Section, Detail Section and Detail callouts without being compelled to create drawing and sheet files.
Furthermore, what happened to the text frame option in the 'Place Note' tool?
Hope it's all still there, hiding somewhere?

Do you mean callouts? If so they're in the Drawing Production tab, and you can just uncheck the Create Drawing box during placement to get the symbol without having to generate a new Drawing and/or Sheet.
In regards to the Place Note tool... good question! I'm not sure what happened to the frame option. Perhaps others reading this might know.
I suppose you could use a text style that has Background enabled and set to BG color, along with applicable X and Y Offsets.

Thanks for your prompt response.
I have the Create Drawing box unchecked but the symbols still default to drawing identifier and drawing number.
Changing the symbology in the Annotation Tool Settings has not effect on line styles, weights, color or text styles.
Is there something in addition to the above that I should be doing?

The Callout tools have always included that information. Are you by chance referring to these tools instead?
