Automatically update Extractions??

My company has it set up to where everything in 3D gets referenced into a Master Model. From there we make the extractions for our plans. I was asked today if there was a way to create a script that if anything is made in like the floor plan. Could it automatically update the extractions without someone going into the Master Model files and clicking on the Calculate All icon? If so where can if find that script?

  • you have that with Building View.

Make any change to a model and that change in automatically in the view and any sheets using that view.

    A Couple issues though.

Make sure all your created Drawing Views stay as Model Sheets.  (Drawing Sheets don't convert into dwg or dgnv7 or v8

I currently have issues if you have your model in one folder sheets in another and sections another.  When I do that I cannot reference ANY file that has a nested Building View.

  • Oh so Bentley View has that capability. But as far as Bentley Architecture V8 XM it doesn't. Would there be anyway of creating a script that would do that?

  • Eric was referring to Building Views, aka, Drawing Views.  They are a real time method for doing what you had described.

Using Drawing Extractions would require some type of macro/script, but you'd have to be fairly knowledgable to create something workable (assuming that it's possible).

  • What version are you using?

If you are using DEM you may want to have a look at ctrl-T>DRAWINGS>>DRAWING EXTRACTION BATCH PROCESS.

Drawing Views is quite another thing than DEM. The future for sure - but the switch is big thing.

  • Have you looked at the 2d/3d linking option for BA?

     Refer to your help.

Otherwise: Also as mentioned Batch extractions might be the best way. You can run Batch extractions from any file that you happen to have open at the time. Look for the icon next to the Extraction Manager button. The idea is that you make the change and then pick the plan extraction or elev etc. in then batch extraction window and calculate that extraction.  Not automated at all tho.

I beleve you can set batch extractions up so that it will run in the middle of the night as a windows Task. Dont know the how to of that but have heard people talk about doing that. Is there a command line for it maybe? Search the old Newsgroups I think it was in there somewhere. otherwise hopefully someone will chime in and let us all know here.

    Cheers
