Hi, is there a way to compare two models in AECOsim CONNECT? The objective is to see the differences between a model and an updated revision of it.
One method is the Design History feature (covered in the help documents). Once enabled this allows changes to be displayed with colour coding and revisions to be compared.
This occurs between revisions within a file not between different files.
Comparison of different files could be accomplished using clash detection, comparing all elements or selections if specific areas are being evaluated.
Can you explain further how to compare to different files with clash detection?
In my case I have two IFC-files I want to compare, placed as references. One older version, and one newer from the ventilation consultant. I'm after an easy way to compare them and see what's new. Is this possible?
AFAIK, there is no way to do this currently using ABD /Mstn.
This is something which is possible with the new i.model.js technology.
Clash detection is normally handled by Navigator which is also apparently moving to iTwins / i.model tech, so you may want to ask your account manager.
Not too many apps on the market that do differencing and clash detection together... so far. 3d Repo is another.
Ironically, this is already possible with point clouds using Bentley products.
Another problem is getting the app to identify the elements between versions in order to compare and track changes.
This means some kind of GUID tracking. As Marc mentions, the old Design History or ISM tech would provide this if DH is activated in you Mstn-based app, but it will not deal with externally produced models coming in as IFC.
IFC has some GUID smarts, but it depends on the authoring app.
Probably needs some 'AI' tools to make educated guesses at some point.
I run clash detection from within OBD, is that going to work in the future?
Ok, I know Tekla Structures has the ability to compare references. At least IFC's, not sure if they can compare DWG's and other formats as well. So it should be possible.
