Hi
I've tested out the new display rules in Aecosim connect and it's a great way to filter out walls, slabs and so on when I try to focus on other stuff. But when I select elements, even though they are not seen, they get selected. Is this really the expected behavior? Seems it's very easy to make mistakes.
Here I've created a rule to only display walls:
But even though I can only see about 5 selected elements, there are 210 other hidden elements. So when I chose no rule I can see al this, that I didn't see at the time of selection, got selected with my fence.
Regards, Robert
Hi Robert,
I cannot seem to reproduce this. When I have a Display Rule hiding specific elements - concrete columns in my case - if a select an area (right-left cross/selection window) where those hidden columns exist but are hidden, they aren't included in the total count in the status bar (the visible elements are) and are not highlighted when I turn off the display rule while the other elements are still selected. How exactly are you selecting the element(s)?
I was selecting them with an area from right to left as well.
Interesting... I wonder why I am not seeing the same thing, This may require a test case for further examination.
Yes. So what should I do?
Hi Robert, please send us a test file that contains both the elements involved and the Display Rules.
You can either do this here or via a service request.
Marc
I'll just send it here then. All displaystyles that starts with BTB is our own. The one I showed in my original post was "BTB - visa bara väggar" (show walls only).

Yes I see what you mean. To confirm I created this display rule that hides everything then shows only walls.
Having applied this rule, selection of any kind includes the hidden elements. I guess this is because a display rule like this is only hiding the elements from the current view, it is not turning off their display in the same way as level off.
While I can see why you could expect only the displayed elements to be selected this feature is not designed to apply selections. I can also see the possibilities for inadvertent selection of hidden elements.
We would advise using the SelectBy tool to create filtered selection sets.
Please file a service request if you would like to ask for the ability to control selection to be added to Display Rules.
Not sure what you mean? Steve told me this wasn't the case for him? Did we misunderstand each other?
I'll definitely file that SR. I would say it's a big risk to use display rules if it works that way.
I guess there was a misunderstanding.
I've tested this in MicroStation too, with the same result.
