Apparently, you now don't have to install Object Enablers for steelwork in Prosteel.
It would be good to have the ON's for MEP and structural objects automatically installed and properly configured in OBD.
It is supposedly possible, but we have never got it work. All kinds of installers and fiddling in the registry.
OBD still needs to be able to interop quite a lot with ACAD-based verticals. IFC export from ACAD is not always very realiable.
Hi Dominic,
It's a little unclear (to me) what you are looking for? Object Enablers are typically required for AutoCAD based applications which doesn't relate to OpenBuildings Designer. Also, what is an "ON"?
Apologies: ON=Object eNabler
OE's are needed so that when a Mstn or OBD user opens/references a dwg generated by a ACAD vertical, all the geometry is visible.
In a BIM context, we normally get DWG's that are generated by MEP verticals like AutoCAD MEP / CADDUCT, not vanilla DWG's. No one models MEP (or structures) without a vertical these days, especially now that the verticals are bundled in.. As BIM gets more mainstream, there will be more Custom Objects and just providing access to the standard ACAD geometry will be increasingly unusable.
So, it would be good to have the OE's for selected ACAD verticals automatically installed when OBD is installed... just like the DWG functionality is.
Ah, I see. Thanks!
ONward...
