asset information in excel format to be created as a dataset
Hi Jimmy,
Can you elaborate on the data you already have in Excel format and which specific parts of a dataset you want to create? IOW, are you looking at DataGroup catalogs, Family + Part, other?
We have nowhere near enough information to respond to this, however in case it may help you to formulate more detailed questions the following example may help:
If you have models (2d or 3D) containing objects to which you wish to assign existing asset data if those objects (assuming they are not AECOsim/OpenBuildings objects already) can be assigned appropriate instance data. Each graphical object will then need to assigned an ID property. You can then export schedules listing the various objects to Excel and use Excel capabilities to map the asset data to the appropriate objects resulting in a schedule that can be imported back to OpenBuildings so the asset properties are displayed in the models.
This is a guess, you may be aiming for some other outcome?
Which versions of what applications are involved here?
Marc

Hi Steve/Marc,
Thanks for your response. Yes I have 3d models containing objects that I wish to assign asset data in excel format and xml extension as well. How could I load my asset data in excel or xml to the catalog for me to use it and attach or assign instance data to the 3d objects in my current model?
please take a look at the Excel Exchange Edit in Excel feature, this is available from V8i SS6 onward. You will need to have at least one identifying property on the existing objects that can be related to an identifier on each row of the the incoming data, that could involve some manual work placing appropriate ID properties on the model objects, but once you have two sortable lists that can be matched up in Excel the other asset proprieties can be matched to the correct graphic objects.
Hi Mark, i followed you sequence in your provided link, but somehow its not working in my end. as shown below.
