We've had a number of drawings rejected from a spec checker for elements on the default level. A little bit of investigating and it seems these are being added to sheet models by AECOsim. The elements are not visible a are removed when the file is compressed, only to reappear when the file is reopened. The annoying part is that each time the file is opened, the elements are added again.
Anyone else come across this?

This does look like the Wiki that Tuan linked to. Levels required by Parts used for Cut Plane, Forward/Reflected and Hatch/Pattern resymbolization are generated on-the-fly so that they're available on-demand. I believe the cells are the Pattern part of that equation.
FWIW, in V8i you can find details about this topic in the Help under Building Platform > Building Dynamic Views > Configuration Notes.
It's also worth noting that the variable BB_DVDATASETELEMENTS was deprecated in CONNECT Edition, covered under the "New/Deprecated/Superseded Configuration Variables" topic in the help. It was replaced by the variables BB_DVDATASETELEMENTDISABLE and BB_DVLEVELSDISABLE which fall under the topic "Configuration: Building Designer Category". Thanks for those Steve, a few more to add to my notes there.
After I knew about the variable name then yes, I would be able to look for information about it in V8i. However, as we didn't use DV or BV and still don't, that part of the help file was not delved into. Had there been a note about how DV system might affect dgnlibs in the dgnlibs documentation, then it would had been picked up much earlier.
And the mentioned section didn't even make it way into OBD U5 help file, hence my various comments regarding documentation. ER 1039431 was raised, but I'm not gonna hold my breath seeing how things are run these days.
As best I can tell, the new variables are covered under Setting Up the Environment > Configuration > Building Configurations > Configuration: Building Designer Category So not specific to DVs, but rather Configuration. As you noted if one doesn't user DVs perhaps it's better under Configuration? I guess it's difficult to place a topic like this because it's not something you explicitly do or a feature you use, per se.

Enhancement request 1039431 was raised by me to have the content of the wiki "managing dgnlib files" to be included in the official help file, as I think it's too significant just to be a wiki.
As for the actual content in the current help file for BB_DVDATASETELEMENTDISABLE and BB_DVLEVELSDISABLE in OBD U5, both include "will be added to the file if necessary to support Dynamic Views", which is quite misleading since there's no "if necessary" about DV elements and levels being added. There are also all up 4-5 sentences for the 2 variables, compared to a whole dedicated section in V8i help.

Ah... an Enhancement, got it. In regards to the current content, I do see your point. Granted, unless one is looking one may never know or care that these levels exist, but to cover those cases perhaps another enhancement for the help is a possibility....
