Why can't 'Section Callouts' be edited and applied globally in the same file?

I discovered that same 'Section Callouts' have to be laboriously edited in the model separately from every sheet in the same file, this doesn't make sense! Worst if you reload the callout after editing (by clicking 'show callout' button'), it revert back to the default labels, you lose the amendments and all the hard work for nothing, that is horrible!

It seems these updates are getting nowhere or am I missing something?

  • Hi Ranit,

Thanks for responding. To clarify the point I have included some screen capture:

    1. Model-1 shows section callout in plan view inviting 'Drawing Identifier' and 'Sheet Number' to be edited.

    2. Model-2 shows section callout edited to 'SECTION E-E' and '134'

    3. Sheet-1 shows same section callout in the sheet model unaffected despite been edited in the model space

    4. Worst if you edit the section callout in the sheet model to reflect your wishes in the model space and click 'show callout' screen button as shown in Image015, you lose the changes back to 'Drawing Identifier' and 'sheet number'

Hope this would be clear enough!

  • Ben,

In my view, editing these values in the callouts directly should be avoided when using it with dynamic views for drawings production.

Model-1 shows section callout in plan view inviting 'Drawing Identifier' and 'Sheet Number' to be edited.

"Drawing Identifier"  and "Sheet number"  in the callouts are linked and updated automatically to the value of the respective drawing title, in a sheet model model, where the corresponding drawings is attached as a reference.

Could you please let us know if you have attached the Section EE drawing as a reference to a sheet? If so, when you attached the drawing as a reference in the Sheet, did you enable the option to create drawing title in the reference attachment dialog?

If the corresponding drawing is not referenced into any sheet model, the callout displays  "Drawing Identifier"  and "Sheet number".

    Best Regards,

    RJ.

  • HI RJ,
Please look at following sequence and let me know what is happening (recorded video version won't attach)
    1. Screenshot 08-29-2019 01.42.02--'Sheet Number' for Side Elevation East must be 127 as shown in the callout and models dialogue box but it is indicated as 139 in the properties 'sheet number
    2. Screenshot 08-29-2019 01.45.58--'Sheet Number' in the properties--is corrected to 127 to match callout and models
    3. Screenshot 08-29-2019 01.50.49--'Drawing Identifier' and 'Name' in properties also matches callout and models
    4. Screenshot 08-29-2019 01.52.33--Entered drawing model 'Elevation-2' to update all
    5. Screenshot 08-29-2019 01.53.48--Upon return to Sheet model, 'Sheet Number' in properties has reverted to 139 from the edited 127 (which is what happened in the first instance back to square one)

Question is how do you stop it defaulting back to the stored sheet index values after editing indirectly through the properties dialogue box and updating. This is a nightmare agreed?
    Regards

  • Ben,

Thanks for clarifying and letting me know that you are unable to attach a video. I am not sure why you are unable to.

Getting only error messages. How did you create the link for your video?

    Regards

I use the below option to insert the video and my video is in .mp4 format.

Also, thanks for letting me know you are using sheet index.

If the sheets are added the sheet index, the value of the Sheet number in the index is applied to the model property and the drawing title.

You might want to try making the change in the sheet index, rather than editing it through properties in that case.

    Best Regards,

    RJ.

  • RJ,

I use the below option to insert the video and my video is in .mp4 format

Also used same option with .MP4 video format. Error message is captured for your perusal. In addition, I tried creating You-tube link but not helpful

Also, thanks for letting me know you are using sheet index

I did not set out to use sheet index, is that not the default setup?

You might want to try making the change in the sheet index,

How do you make changes to 'sheet number' in the sheet index?

  • Ben,

Error message is captured for your perusal.

I trust this needed to be checked by the forum administrators.

I did not set out to use sheet index, is that not the default setup?

Sheet index is a new feature introduced in CONNECT Edition.

I think you might have Toggled on "Add to Sheet index"  while creating the drawing(00:24 in my video), or when creating a new sheet model (1:03 in my video).

I notice there is a value set for the Sheet Index in the properties dialog box you have shared.

How do you make changes to 'sheet number' in the sheet index?

You will find Sheet index in the Explorer. Please check if your sheets are added to the sheet index and you will notice there are tools available to manage Sheet Index.

    Best Regards,

    Raguram.

  • Hi RJ,

'Sheet Index' problem solved and here is how:

    Turn on Project Explorer--Sheet Index
--Click 'Open Sheet Index for Edit' to expand menu
--Click 'Manage sheet index' --'Folder' tab-- turnoff 'Inherit Naming Rule from Parent'
Adjust 'Start Number' to say 120.
Adjust 'Sheet Number Prefix' (optional) D for details--OK
Then add folder (4th button from left) and rename it (not before the above)
Open 'Models' select and drag sheets into the folder directly--move sheets up or down to match desire numbering sequence.(Warning fiddly, select bottom 3 say, before dragging another sheet on top otherwise it will drop to last).
Update and check to see if numbering sequence is correct in 'Properties' as well as in 'Details' dialogue box at the bottom of screen. This should help to customize the Sheet Index

Place 'Sheet Index' as table to see useful drawing schedule. To add 'model name' to report:
    Drawing > Home > Analyze > Reports
In the Reports dialogue box click 'Columns'--Add Columns--Model link--General--Check 'Model Name' OK! to add to the columns and refresh to see 'Model Names'

Hope this might be helpful to others too

    Regards

    Ben
