Wall placement properties, configuration variable

Hi

When I place e.g. a wall I choose both Catalog Type and then Catalog Item. These choices seem to get saved somewhere, are they? In that case, where?

  • Hi Robert,

These preferences are saved in ABDStateData.xml which is located under your "prefs" folder.

  • Hi Robert,

Just to add some more detail to Anik's reply the behaviour of ABDStateData.xml is described below, if you keep it open while working you will be able to track changes that may give some insight. Do your users change dataset in normal operations? That would wipe the MRU history stored in this file for catalog Type and Name.

I don't think the *z.rsc files are involved, I will ask for confirmation of this.:

This is the ABDStateData.xml file after closing in Dataset UK, having last placed a wall and a door:

Switching to Dataset SE and opening a file does not change the file, but as soon as a building element placement tool is started the wall tool Notepad++ says the file has changed and prompts to reload (another good reason to use Notepad++ or similarly capable text editior).

The MRU details are cleared and the active Dataset is written:

Place a wall (for instance) then the last used name and type are written to the file:

Lines 7 and 8 (in this case) of the xml populate the Placement panel next time it is opened:

  • Ok, thanks for all input. I was after an easy answer, and one is that it should be personal. I think I'll just go with that. Good Idea about the shortcut tough. I might create some of those.
