Edit Spaces Tool - Quirky?

1. Click on Select tool - prompt: Element Selection > Identify element to add to set

2. Hover on Space

3. Click on Edit Spaces tool - prompt: Edit Space > Accept/Reject Shape. Property Panel displays Spaces info.

4. Click on empty space in view window to accept per above prompt . Property Panel de-populates. User confused and tries again.

This is pretty klunky and could be fixed fairly easily. The prompt should read 'Accept/Reject changes'?

PS: populating the PP could be a little quicker.

  • Also, after making your mods in the Property Panel, if you click on another Space, you lose your mods as the Edit tool does not seem to monitor the Properties Panel.

Happens all the time in practice as the corridors next to the rooms are also Spaces. I have had to open a new View Window (framing some empty space outside the building) to click into.

Clicking on the second window is also buggy in that the Space tool does not always record the click in the second window properly, leading to selection of another Space... which also flushes the changes made in the Property Panel. Hovering over an element to allow AccuSnap to find it in the second window seems to help.

PS: Clicking on another/next field in the Properties Panel also helps heaps. Workaround to minimise jarring miss-fires : always use the selection tool to select, then right-click to call Edit Space tool.

  • The Room annotation also does not retain any translation. The annotation often needs to be moved to allow readability. If the Spaces info is updated in the Property Panels, the annotation object reverts to its original position :-(

PS: the Room annotation object is generated using the Drawing Production > Element Annotation tool.

  • Hover - highlights the shape. When the Space is selected, the colour should change. No feedback leads to prolonged periods of guessing whether the Space is being processed or not.

You may argue that the user should be watching the prompt for the 'Accept/Reject Shape' message to tell whether the Space has been successfully selected or processed the changes, but Accusnap is still active and is free to highlight another Shape... leading to more confusion.

PS: After the user is finished adding or modifying the Space's properties in the Property Panel, and clicks inadvertently (see above) on another Space... right-clicking / re-setting confirms the changes. OK, but the prompt does not indicate this to the user.

Bug: after the user has made some changes in the Property Panel, the prompt shoud change to 'Accept/Reject Changes to Properties'. When the user clicks, the Edit Space tool should not select/de-select another Space (presumably this is what is causing the Edit Space tool to flush the changes made in the Properties Panel).

Better to also provide 'Apply / Cancel' buttons in the Properties dialog?

  • Hi Dominic,

Can you please file a service request for this so that we can attach the required enhancement?
