In aecosim, there is a option called "construct circular fillet with one radius given. I want to construct circular fillet with two
radius given. Similarly we have option called "construct chamfer" in which it has two distance have given in it . I want
the same option( distance 1, distance 2) in fillet as well. Is there a way to do so?
can you elaborate more and give an example of the use case for a fillet with 2 different radii. Would the resultant fillet be the shortest possible given the radii, or would an axis of the arc be perpendicular to a specific side or go through the existing vertex.
HI Sir,
For example I want to draw the fillet with 2 different radii by assigning the values in (x,y) distance in which one radius will
be shortest radii & other one will be longest radii which we do similarly in "construct chamfer by assigning two values for
(distance 1, distance 2).Is there any solution to do in "construct fillet" as well ?
Hi Pranay,
I think David was referring to why/where you would need to generate a fillet with a compound radius along the edge of a solid/form. Chamfers are a different case since they are flat edges so they need a distance in each direction in order to generate the geometry. Fillets only need that one radius to do the same so your use case must be a bit different than what we typically see.
Yes Sir, Its a bit different what I am trying to ask. If I do a fillet along each direction (x,y) distance, in order to a curve
with two different radius. Is it possible to do so ?
No, the Fillet tool does not provide the ability to use more than one radius. For reference this tool is simply what MicroStation provides.
What are you designing that requires a complex radius?
I want to do detailing for AMERICAN ROLLED SHAPES (I=section) in which it has two different radius (R1, R2) as per
the code. So in order to do detailing for this, What command shall I use to draw the curve with two different radius given.
But In SVG (Scalar vector graphics) it is possible to draw the curve with two different radius & Why cannot in Aecosim ?
I was speaking to one of my Structural colleagues and he was not aware of typical US I shapes that include compound radius fillets on the web or flange. So just to be sure we're on the same page, were you actually looking for two different radii (R1 and R2) like this image?
This was taken from ProSteel.
