It was mentioned recently that BBES will be re-written by big brother Siemens.
True?
There are plans to change and/or update the Electrical portion at some point in the future, if nothing else to accommodate Microsoft's support of .NET 3.5 (Electrical requires it). But AFAIK nothing on the immediate horizon.

Thanks Steve... for the info. It was mentioned in a recent SIG that a big rewrite was being planned. It would be interesting to see what someone like Siemens would come up with. BBES seems to have stagnated over the years.
Hevacomp Nimbus, BRCM both seem to have a lot of wasteful overlap with BBES.
BBES also does not integrate with the new Connect UI, Component Center, Named Presentations, Property-based Annotations, edit in the new Table tool etc.
Does it have an API? After all the new Open branding / strategy would suggest this?
By the time you do all of that, you might as well rewrite from scratch?
I think more than anything, it's the underlying database format/structure that makes updating the tools more difficult. So whatever plans there are going forward they'll be based on current technologies/concepts as OBD operates today.
