Hi
I'm trying to get a hang on components center cells. I've created one with 3 piles and a pile cap in concrete to start with.
When I place it in a design file, the cells elements are not handled as normal structural elements. For instance I can't see the piles in schedules, nor in a report.
In the image below, one pile group is still left as a cell. The other one have I used the tool "drop element" on.
Regards,
Robert
Hi Robert,
I thought we had a wiki describing this behavior but perhaps not... The closest thing I could find is this older forum thread where it's mentioned that DataGroup instance data needs to exist at the top level of the cell in order to be read:

This sounds like what you may be experiencing.
Ok. So there is no way to achieve what I'm after? Unless I drop the cell to elements?
I believe that is the case for regular cells. Within a cell library the elements within each model are separate from each other, so dropping the cell header after placement returns them to their original state. You mentioned Structural members, how are you creating the pile cell itself?
I'm placing it as a structural pile.
The reason for all of this is I'm looking for a way to place cells that include multiple catalog items. Like in this case, I have a concrete pile cap and some steel piles. It's very common we place them in a group like that. But right now the user has to place them all as separate elements. It would save lots of time if it could be placed as one.
Ah... I see. So what you're really after is something along the lines of a Structural "assembly"?
