Match Element in Modify Properties panel - Active ?

Is there any way to make the Match Element tool active?

This would make the tool a lot more useful and save a lot of hopping about between tools.

  • Hi Dominic,

The Match Element properties tool is currently available only while placing a new element.
However, our software is constantly improving based on the suggestions of users like you, I would request you to file a Service Request for this issue so that we can create an Enhancement for the consideration of our internal team.

    Best Regards

  • No probs. Some vids showing what I mean by 'hopping about' and other UX niggles...

Niggle 1: When the Match Element tool is triggered, it should NOT be still trying to place an object. This confuses the user and burns CPU cycles unnecessarily. Very sloppy UX.

Niggle 2: The Match Element tool is tied to the active tool. If you are in the Door tool, it will only recognise Doors. This is a big time waster. The user would then need to read the Flyover and guess what Catalog Type the target uses, then go back to the Ribbon etc. The tool should be able to recognise the object type automatically and move to the appropriate tool.

Niggle 3: To Modify an Element, the user selects the object and then presses Modify at the Ribbon. He then makes the changes. Data point to accept. So far so good. The Door is still activated. Another Data point and the Ribbon goes back to Place mode and the Modify tool disappears from the Ribbon. This forces the user to have to go back to the Ribbon repeatedly if there are more than one object to modify (this will be commonplace). Another time waster.

The big blank Property panel also drags the whole UX down. Reminds me of all those early Windows 95 apps / wizard dialog boxes cluttering up the screen back in the day.

It would be far better to keep the Modify Element tool active in the panel where the 'Match Element' icon is located.

Enhancement 1: As mentioned above, it would be great to have this active so that the user can make better use of the Property panel since it will be on display a lot of the time due to the need to modify elements. This will often be interspersed with placing new elements. Making the transition as smooth and seemless as possible will reduce operator fatigue and increase productivity.... and kerb appeal.
