why is Open Site Design a paid add-on ??

Really, wich discipline does not require a minimum site design ?

It should be in the power plateform.

I have several Open Buidling Designer - expensives-  licenses and i should add on top of this a new paid module to design  the site around my building ??  Come on..

  • Hello Chris,

Open Sites is a different product, which comes under Civil Design. A separate product needs a separate license. It is just an companion application that can be installed while installing OBD. See the attached image.

Also if you want to have the site around your building then you can do that by attaching point clouds data inside OBD. I hope this helps your query.

  • Hi Alifur,

I guess, even when your answer is correct, it's not what asked about.

In my opinion the question was about tools allowing site design, which means to build DTM and optionally other objects.

Also if you want to have the site around your building then you can do that by attaching point clouds data inside OBD.

Really? I am not building engineer, but surveyor formerly, and I do not know about any my customer that would accept points cloud as "site design". Point clouds are helpful often, but for sure not as replacement of vector site design.

  • I came across this because I had the same question as Chris...Is there not an option for us Building designers to do basic site modeling without the licensing of Open Site?

Our company used to have a license of Inroads, and I used to use it to import the survey to build a surface, and use a few basic tools to shape the site around my building. This is crucial for the building design work but was also helpful for the 3D visualization of the site and to produce renderings thereafter.

Because of cost, I had to drop that license, and now I have to resort to the tedious mesh tools to design my site. I can still build my mesh from the survey points or from lidar point data, but doing things like adding driveways and shaping the site thereafter is not user friendly with meshes.
