Re: [Building Analysis Forum] navigator

I thought using AECOsim for the modelling was the way forward but the architects are having problems referencing the mechanical files.

I also noticed a problem making non standard duct fittings, do you have any suggestions?

  • Hello David,

Thanks for raising this question. Which application of AECOsim are you using? Are there any error messages you are receiving, while referencing the mechanical files? Could you provide us some screenshots for the same?

    Regards,
    Soniya

  • Hi Soniya

i am using the mechanical suite, ductwork and pipework

i gave up trying to use the plumbing tools because I wasn’t able to select the fittings I could find in AECOsim abs, and copper fittings. With the ductwork it’s often the case that you need to make fittings that are not standard such as a transition that is not 22.5deg slope.

i have tried selecting the blank catalog, which with AECOsim meant it was possible with either plumbing of ductwork to create a fitting that was dimensionally accurate.

Are there any known problems and fixes regarding the use of AECOsim application elements (mechanical or plumbing suite) on a project that generally is using Open Building Designer Connect.

  • Hi David,

It's still not quite clear what the issue is that the architects are having referencing your mechanical files.   Can you elaborate more on that?

Since you're using AECOsim it must be either CONNECT Update 4 or earlier - which specific version are you running?   This may help answer your question about the differences between your current version and the latest OpenBuildings Designer, though even here it would be helpful if you could expand on those details as well.

  • Steve, I thought is was update 6 but will check when I get back. Their problem is they are not able to set the overrides (as far as I can tell) we are able to control the overrides when the files are referenced into sheet files that are OBD.

do you know how to edit standard mechanical fittings? I was finding that I couldn’t create duct fittings that fitted my purpose such as transformations to louvers and pipe fittings in abs

  • Hi David,

I'm afraid you'll still need to be more specific since controlling overrides could mean many things.  Also, any chance that the OBD dataset they're using is different from the AECOsim dataset you have?   IOW, different level libraries, color tables, etc.?

In regards to mechanical what exactly do you want to modify?   Could you provide a specific example of a delivered fitting and the type of change you're trying to make?
