Multiple insert points for a compound cell - Customization

Hello all,

I would like to find out does the new OBD edition has provisions for:-

1, Creating multiple insertion point for a compound cell?

2, Create a Compound cell with Child relationships.

Take for example a prefab cabinet unit has

  a, the box

  b, the door

  c, the hardware (handles etc)

From the version of OBD I have every time you change the combination of a, b, c, you need to rebuilt a new cell

I often use the common structural framing system to build a compound cell so that I can change the framing plans on the fly.

Can anyone tell me if the software has such a provision?

Thanks,

  • Hi Tim,

Compound Cells are no longer being developed.

In Update 7 you will find technology previews of Named Presentation, Multiple Placement Points and Perforators for Parametric Cells which is the route for future content creation.

Please refer to the relevant content in the help documentation in the first instance. Note that we have added a Constraints tab on the Building Design ribbon bar which is is contextual and only appears when the active model's state is set to "Can Be placed as Cell = True".

  • Hi Mac,

    Thank you.
I have a feeling that Bentley is going to discontinue this item.  It is the same as the door builder and the stair builder.
(The roof builder was useless at day one)
Using compound cells to generate plans is simpler and faster to do than the Parametric.
I think door and windows are okay to do; however,
there are parts/ items like restaurant equipment and hospital equipment.  They are not parametric in nature (except the work tables).
We do a lot of hospitality design.
Therefore, we rely heavily on compound cells to generate plans and equipment schedules.
These schedules must be very detailed so that the consultants can use these schedules to do their engineering.

I hope you can help convey these ideas back to the development team.
The software development team actually needs to understand how architectural design operates these days.
Practices has been changed a lot over the years.
    I hope you understand.

  • Hi Tim,

In the case of static objects, perhaps imported from other formats, the parametric tools do not need to be involved. Named presentations and Placement Points will provide improved capability compared to Compound Cells.

  • Hi Marc,

Named Presentation and Placement Point are 2 completely new items for me.
Let me investigate this further.  Dose Bentley learn server has information for these 2 items.
Are these 2 items only for Connected Edition?

    Thank you so much !

  • Hi Marc,

I am trying to follow your recommendation to look at the 2 items.
I am currently in OBD 10.07.00.105
(Follow your screen shot) I looked under
    Modeling > Constraints
on the right side of 3D, I can only see "Item Types"
and not the "Parametric..." per your screen shot.
What do I need to do in order to get to your menu.

Please advice,  Thank you so much !
