OBD to Navisworks

HI there

Was wondering what's the best way to create a Navisworks model from OBD.

Currently I do the following method

1. save the OBD v6 model to Microstation v8i 2004 (doesnt like exporting to DWG)

2. Open the Microstation v8i model and save-as to DWG format

3. Open Navisworks Simulate and Append the DWG model and manipulate the colour settings

4. Save as to model.NWD (2016) format

Thanks

Steve

  • I use the Batch Utility from within Navisworks, you can access this from a batch file to automate this process or from the dialog within Navisworks.

You need to check the Use Beta File Loader in Navisworks Manage 2020 from Options Editor > File Readers > DGN. I've recently started using Navisworks Manage 2021 and it doesn't seem necessary to check this option, need to more testing to confirm.

Parametric solids need to be converted to smart solids, other than that everything should come across fine.

I've also exported out the steelwork from OBD as IFC files on previous projects.
