I am fairly new at operating the software and would like help with some basic tasks. One such doubt is as follows:I have imported an MEP drawing from AutoCAD and the ducts are placed at a particular height from the plan drawing. I would like to know how one specifies the height of the duct before placing it so that it coincides with the imported AutoCAD drawing. Thank you in advance.
The Base Offset value in the Place Component dialog sets the height above the current working plane:
The easiest way to set consistent working planes is to use Floor Manager
To set planes for each floor, then if it is helpful you can set subsidiary Reference Planes for ceilings, or perhaps a minimum bottom of duct height, whatever is most useful.
Note that both Base Offset and Reference Planes are utilised during element placement, the offset values and reference plans used are not stored with each element (so revising the height of a duct section is effected by moving the duct; the Base Offset used at placement is not retained so cannot be modified after placement).
While we understand that your use of a V8i application may be constrained by the project that you are working on, please be aware that:
a) the product has now benefitted from several years of development, the mechanical tools are significantly enhanced from their V8i state:
b) Other than MicroStation V8i SS10, V8i products are in Discontinued Support as described in Bentley Support Policy. We recommend upgrade to the latest CONNECT Edition product.

Hello Shaw,
Please go through the video. Here i have used a line string which is in some height from the base. I have tried to place a duct on that line. Let me know if it helps you.
