I received notification in my CONNECTION Client screen that there were recently four updates available to our account, one of which was OB Designer CONNECT Edition Update 8 as per the image below, I have been waiting for our IT Dept for a few weeks to get around to load this, and now the updates have disappeared. Why have these disappeared and what can be done to reload them

I'm not really sure why they disappeared... See if this makes any difference:
From the CONNECTION Client dialog choose Settings > Update tab > Check Now
I tried what you suggested and got back the message
"Check Updates failed with error Forbidden."

Have you tried to update your Connection Client? Because in the update dialog, i see an update is there for the CC.

It seems its user rights issue ,if signed-in user does not have "Product Delivery - Download" role , such error message appeared. Kindly follow this wiki for the solution.

Screen shot of my connection client as of now. There are no updates to install. Not even the Connection Client Update!
