So I can modify duct work or piping. Because if you link an IFC file to OBD all the sizes are shown in the properties.
buildingSMART create Model View Definitions (MVD) for different scenarios that software vendors have to certify against (either self-certified or validated by buildingSMART, the process and outcome is the same either way).

IFC4 Reference View MVD is the one currently used by vendors to provide consistent (within the limits of the various technologies and interpretations of the MVD specification involved) readable IFCs via import/export/reference.

IFC 4 Design Transfer View MVD is intended to enable IFC elements to be reused as compatible objects, i.e. a duct from application A can be edited in application B then sent back to application A.

RE: Mechanical IFC to OpenBuidldng Design

What is the meaning of Transfer MVD?

RE: Mechanical IFC to OpenBuidldng Design

Thank you for your reply.
IFC cannot currently be 'round-tripped' in this way, i.e. IFC > OBD > IFC.

The IFC 4 Design Transfer View MVD aspires to this capability but is currently suspended, it sounds like we will have to wait for IFC 5 for further development.
