Delayed Response Time

I have recently been experiencing a problem with a few seconds delay when adding or deleting elements.

I have no idea if this is hardware or software related but I have not changed my hardware and the only software changes have been updates to OS, programs or drivers.

I know that this is really vague but was wondering if there was a setting somewhere or something that someone could suggest I look at to overcome a very frustrating and counterproductive issue.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Many thanks

  • Hi Marc,

Thanks for your response and apologies for my not replying earlier.

I decided to uninstall and reinstall OBD which seems to have solved the problem whatever it may have been.

However, I now find that AccuSnap and associated tentative snap do not locate any Forms elements!

If I hover over the elements they are highlighted but AccuSnap will not identify them. It works just fine with solids and surfaces just not forms.

I have searched as many settings as I can identify to avail.

    Never had this happen before.

Can you perhaps throw some light on this?

    I would much appreciate it.

    Best regards

  • HI Rodney,

On the previous point about manipulating large numbers of elements, performance improvements are made to our applications that should help with this. One thing you can do is to turn off the (MicroStation) Properties dialog when working with large numbers of elements. When multiple elements are selected their element properties populate the dialog which can take a noticeable time, turning off the dialog eliminates this. (We have filed enhancement no 663298 'Fetch and show only the "General" properties tab when more than X elements are selected' aimed at improving performance when the properties dialog is open. You could file an SR referencing this item if you would like add weight to it's priority.)

AccuSnap ignoring Forms is odd. What happens if you hover over a Form while holding down Ctrl + Shift (that is just a test not a proposed solution BTW!).

Does AccuSnap work with any building elements? You say Forms, does that specifically mean elements placed using the Forms tools or other building elements too?

    Marc

  • Hi Marc,

Thanks again for your prompt response and the update regarding the Properties dialog.

I will file an SR referencing this enhancement number as you suggest.

Regarding the AccuSnap issue, I went ahead and tried your suggestion by holding down Ctrl + Shift, however that results in no snap being identified on any element.

Further experimentation has revealed that all snap modes, with the exception of 'Key Point Snap', identify forms elements. Ie every other snap mode works on forms other than 'Key Point Snap'

It is really odd! Never seen this before and it only manifested after I had uninstalled and then reinstalled OBD.

I tried the same thing just loading Microstation and had the same thing happen.

    Really appreciate your input

    All the best

  • Hi Rodney,

I turned on Dimensioning Keypoints, the only other snap setting I can think right now, which appears to prevent snapping to walls and linear forms but not to slab forms. I not sure what is going on there, as I do not remember encountering that behaviour before. Do you have this turned on?

    Marc

  • Hi Marc,

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I did check and the 'Keypoints for Associative Dimensioning' was turned on.

PDFI also tried experimenting with the setting for 'Use Snap Mode from Preferences' in the Operation settings preference window. But to no avail.

    Very puzzling and frustrating.
