Hello,
Apparently it is not possible to assign a Curtain Wall to a SmartLine with curves using Place By: From Element, see attached image.
I am trying to get a smooth connection at the curve, see marked area.
Any logical explanation why it is not possible to place a Curtain Wall on a SmartLine with curves??
Hello Nasir,
We have a defect filed regarding the curtain wall not taking the complex line while placement by element.

Not sure, but the curtain wall panels on the curved segment of the B-spline are faceted (straight sections in plan)?
It would be good to generate arc'd panels to match the radii of the original Smartline. Not sure if this included on Alifur's defect notification?
Hi Dominic,
We facet curtain walls along curves, the tool was designed this way.
Following arcs would be a separate enhancement so will not be part of the defect mentioned above.

The question is whether this is the right 'way'.
Just noticed that the panels are always faceted even when placing the CW by Arc modes. It is a shame that curved panels are not supported. It would be good to have for all those underground metro station tunnels and passages. Speed being the reason? This could be addressed by a 'show curved panels' pop up menu toggle that replaces the faceted panels with curved ones that the user clicks on after he is done flexing. Implement as Display Handler? Hopefully this is on the road map.
SmartLines to B-spine workaround: It sounds like no one really tackled complex linestrings or SmartLines and just designed the CW tool to take a continuous linear geometric element, which includes both lines and B-splines.
The CW tool is a great preliminary design tool. To persist beyond schematic design, the CW elements would have to :
All hopefully being designed in for a future release.
In any case, it would be good to be able to accommodate complex linear elements like SmartLines and linestrings for the schematic design stage where the CW tool is most useful... as a means to 'rough out' the design before progressive refinement and detailing.
Some options:
1. When a panel straddles a straight and arc'd segment, provide a linear panel. Where the panels fall fully on the arc, provide curved panels. The panel vertex points along the SmartLine would still be the same. The same 'show curved panels' toggle can be used. Maybe there should be a 'curved panels' attribute for the segment. I can see some users needing to preserve the faceted panels.
2. Provide an additional panel vertex at the transition point between straight and arc'd segments, and insert a 'corner' mullion and straight and arc'd infill panels adjacent. The user could then select the curved panels and replace with a Parametric Cell manually.
3. Treat each line / arc segment as separate CW element subject to the usual Layout and Justification settings. Selecting each segment would expose separate settings for the selected segment. When the user finishes manipulating the Base Curve / SmartLine etc the CW tool re-generates the individual segments.
