Hi all,
I'm trying to create custom line styles in OpenBuildings Designer but having a number of issues.I'm following the tutorial here: Create a custom line style - A tutorial - [Archived] AskInga Wiki - MicroStation - Bentley CommunitiesThe tutorial is over ten years old, but still seems to be accurate to the Line Style Editor tool. Is there a better or more up to date tutorial I should be using?
I can create new stroke and point components as the tutorial suggests, but the line always appears solid regardless of length or placement of dashes. Furthermore, I can't get any points to display on the line when I create a compound component. I thought I'd download the example file from the tutorial to compare with how I've created mine, but the line from the tutorial is displayed in exactly the same way (i.e. no gaps or points), despite having the same settings as is displayed in the tutorial itself. I've included a screenshot with the example file.
Does anyone have any advice on what may be causing this, or on creating line styles in general? Thanks in advance!
Tom
Hi Tom,
While that older tutorial does seem complete; here are a couple of other blog articles about custom line styles that may help, the sequence does take a bit of practice and the UI is in need of an update (please see the MicroStation Ideas page and add your vote to Improved Linestyle Editor):
MicroStation - Creating Custom Line Styles.
MicroStation - Using Custom Line Styles.

Hi Marc,
Thanks for the links to the other tutorials. As far as I'm aware, I was following the steps correctly, but not getting the desired result and the new tutorial doesn't seem to help with that. All the same, it is good to have additional resources to learn more about the tools. I agree that the user interface could be a little easier to navigate.
Can you share the rsc file you created. my best guess based on the screenshot is that your custom stroke the dash length may be zero
Hi David, The previous screenshot has the tutorial file open, with three dashes of lengths 1.0, 0.5, 1.0. If you follow the link to the tutorial I posted above, you'll see the walkthrough and will be able to download the file for yourself.I've attached a screenshot of my file. On my new line style, I've tried a pattern of dash (length 2.0), gap (0.5), gap (0.5), gap (0.5). Below is my rsc file.
