Designfile Cleanup for Structural Elements

Hi All

I have duplicate structural elements in a model and need to delete the duplicates.  The designfile cleanup tool only searches for a limited list of elements, and structural elements is not amongst them, so it is not finding the duplicates.  It works on lines etc. but not the structural elements.)  I have restore the default settings, no help there.  Does anyone know how to do this?

  • Hi Wendy,

Design File Cleanup is a Platform (MicroStation) tool designed in the 2D drafting context so only includes element types and attributes that are common to all products and was never designed to handle duplication of complex elements such as structural objects.

If an entire set of structural elements has been duplicated you may find that it is possible to identify them in the Schedules dialog by looking for groups of element IDs, please take a look at the attached video where I duplicate a set of columns. It is fairly clear that there are two sequences so one of them can be identified and selected for deletion. Obviously this is a very clean and simple example, but I hope this method may be of use?

There may be another method, we're checking that and will update this thread with any new information.

  • Hi Wendy,

You can also use Clash Detection to identify overlapping elements, although it is still necessary to manually select and remove them:

  • Hi Marc, has been a longstanding limitation with OBD/ABD/BA despite basic functionality existing in ms base. Maybe an idea that the clean up tool (and select by attributes tool) finally be upgraded to work on OBD elements and parametric solids now also.....

  • Hi Mark

Any chance you could make the Oct 15 2021 video available again for other to view this option as well?

    Thanks

  • Hi Camaron,

It looks like that video is gone...   But what Marc was referring to is the Schedules tool as outlined in this wiki: https://communities.bentley.com/products/building/building_analysis___design/w/building_analysis_and_design__wiki/58332/changing-section-name-of-multiple-structural-elements-at-once

Only instead of using it to modify properties you could use to identify the duplicates.  The screen capture in the wiki shows the Element ID column that Marc was referring to as a way to pick out those duplicates.
