Probably been asked a few times on here but migrating to OBD Connect Edition from ABD Select series 6. We had dgnlib files set up with all of our tool box customisations and the pop up right click context menu with additional tools.
In ABD I was pretty good at dealing with the configuration set up, but have not been able to get the Connect edition to find this dgnlib despite adding it to the list. I have tried the migration tool but didn't know where I could find the right files to use. I did find one .map file but don't think it was the right one. I would set up the context menu again but I can't find where the original custom tools I made in ABD V8i systems and really don't want to have to start from scratch.
Anyone know how to fix this? This is one of my big bugbears about any Bentley upgrade I have to do, not everyone is an expert in adjusting backstage operations, it should be much easier. I am an architect, not a software configuration expert. The reason I was so far back with prodcut versions was it was all working fine, the old if it ain't broke don't fix it but with the dropping of PowerDraft support and licensing as announced we will have to do this all again.
Any help much appreciated.
Keith
Perhaps this will help:
https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/w/microstation__wiki/25797/how-to-migrate-old-customizations-to-the-ribbon
You can still access the customize dialog to see if your customizations are loading:
https://docs.bentley.com/LiveContent/web/OpenBuildings%20Designer%20Help-v4/en/CustomizeDialog.html
In the move to CONNECT please be aware that some tools may be replaced.
Brilliant, it was the MS_GUIDGNLIBLIST that I had to use to point to the customising dgnlib. Still think it shouldn't be this difficult though, should be a setup in the "front of house" rather than configuration to make it much more user friendly.
Many thanks

Hi Keith,
Essentially you would like to see settings for locating resources in a UI?
Marc
Hi Marc, my query is resolved but yes, I feel that you shouldn't really have to go into Configuration Variables to point to configuration files to get things working the way you had them before. I have done this with V8i but didn't have to use the MS_GUIDGNLIBLIST before, just use the dgnlib search path. I spoke with Bentley's Customer Success Manager and spoke at length about how not all users are expert configurators, they are architects and engineers etc and really want something that is up and running very quickly after upgrading and to be honest, I even find the customising toolbox/menu a bit on the complicated side and could do with a more "idiot friendly" interface and I am considered an advanced user in our small office..
As a case in point when I am installing new versions of Microstation for staff in the office, experienced CAD/Software users, when they see me working through the configuration adjustments I have to do they think it is some sort of dark art I am performing as I go through process.
Key points for me:
: Not all users/organisations are large enough have a dedicated CAD / IT Manager, the person who deals with the software is doing this while trying to work in their main role.
: The fact that some of the guides and wiki's are sometimes quite lengthy kind of makes my point too.
: I am pretty sure that many users will be a few versions behind due to the processes involved with upgrades if they are not experts in migrating interfaces etc.
Hopefully that is my moan over for the day.
Regards
As a long time exponent of the 'dark art' I understand exactly what you are saying and will pass this on to product managers. Thank you for your comments.
