Are there any issues to be aware of if we model in OpenPlant using a GCS like MGA94 Zone 50?
Thanks,
Hi Sean,
If OpenBuildings or other complex 3D modelling is carried out in real world coordinates far from the design file centre you may run into the widely discussed but unpredictable issues with underlying computation that can affect the results of complex solid modelling and view calculations. OpenBuildings can be more affected by these issues as we model at a higher resolution than MicroStation to support the very small scale of many building components.
Using the GCS gives you the opportunity to use a geo-referencing workflow enabling you to model near to the design file centre, avoiding such issues, while relating models to their real-world context. In OpenBuildings at 1000 UOR/mm, "near" approximates to a 10km cube centred on 0,0,0.
This video shows how transformed GCS' can be used to reference four separate building models all created at 0,0,0 to their site locations:
You would need to ask the same question of our OpenPlant colleagues to obtain their view of the criticality of modelling close to 0,0,0.
Regards
Marc
I'm familiar with flat grids like those we tend to create for plant grids, but never worked across translated map grids like MGA94.
