Export Coordinates to Report

OpenBuildingsDesigner CONNECTEdition Update 4. Version - 10.04.00.69

Hi All,

I have a set of 3D coordinates in my model and I intend to export and link them to an OBD table instead of a spreadsheet (Excel) file.

Is this possible? If so, can someone illustrate to me how (preferably in a short video) I can implement this efficiently?

Thank you

regards

  • Hi Henry,

When you say "3D Coordinates" what kind of element are you referring to?

  • Hi Marc

I meant setting out coordinates with XYZ values.

Currently, I use the "Export Coordinates" to generate a text file, format the text file in excel then finally link the excel to an OBD table.

Can I export the coordinates directly unto a table bypassing the excel formatting?

  • If they are created with the label coordinates tool there is an export tool:

If not then the Reports tool is likely to be the place to start

  • The coordinates have not been labelled. They are just points

  • Points are zero length lines so coordinates are easy to report:

Placing a table based on this report is described in help: Home > Drawing Composition > Scheduling and Reporting > Tables > Place Table

  • Hi Marc,

Million thanks for the video. You are always a kind gem. Well-doneThumbsup

Meanwhile, in the attached dgn below I have ten 2D setting-out point cells. Please, can you illustrate in a quick video similar to the one above on how I can use XY coordinates from these ten cells to generate a report with three columns named  (ID, NORTHINGS, EASTINGS)  respectively. Also, after the report has been generated, can you add two more cells to make a total of twelve and then  illustrate how the columns in the newly generated report will update automatically with the addition

Sorry I have to hit the ground running with this as I am currently pressed for time. I will go through the help guide thereafter.

I look forward to hearing from you

    Thanks, in anticipation

    Regards

  • The method for reporting on cell coordinates is included in this blog Setting Up in the Real World – Generating real-world setting out coordinates.

Creating a report that lists separate xyz coordinates is covered in the section that starts after the fourth image.

The attached copy of your file contains a starter report as shown above, duplicate and reformat the origin field so you have separate xyz coordinate entries as described in the blog.

Export Setting Out Coordinates to OBD Table With Report.dgn

Once edited to the way you want it, to share this report for use in other files, open an appropriate DGNLIB that is included by the MS_DGNLIBLIST variable, open the Reports dialog, navigate to the source DGN and import the report:

  • Hi Marc,

I will look into this and thanks for your help.

Meanwhile, there is another important requirement to all this. As illustrated in the image below we have used the "Export Coordinates" tool combined with the fence option to generate text labels in a sequential manner for all the SOP cells and each time we populate the model with more SOP cells, we apply a new fence and the label sequence continues from the last number which is then exported as a text file into an excel spreadsheet. An ODB table is generated from the resulting Excel spreadsheet.

So, in as much as I intend to go in the direction of report/table approach for these SOP cells, I also NEED the cells to be labelled in sequence (not object ID) dynamically in tandem with the generated report else it will not be useful when the drawings get to site for construction.

Is there a way around this?

I look forward to hearing from you

    Thanks

    Henry
