Hello,
I am trying to find a way, similar to Revit, where I can show wall types in different colour. In Revit, a WALL FILTER is added with an override.
The above image shows what I am trying to achieve you can see that different colour has been applied to different wall types, visible in different views.
How do I achieve this in OBD without the need of creating extra drawings? The only way I can think of is to add the fill colour manually in the DV, The downfall, the solid fill will not change when the actual wall is changed/moved in the 3D model.
PS: I am struggling to understand why OBD can't do simple things and why there are always extra steps required to achieve something?
Hi Nasir,I have made a small video of how the colour of the walls can be changed as per your requirement. HTH.Regards,Shreya
Hi Shreya,
Thank you for the video but that is not my question. It is not about applying parts. I need to highlight particular wall types in the design. In my example you can see a floor plan showing colour and no colour.
So, I want OBD to show me all Internal-Block-Walls-100 in RED on the Ground Floor in my drawing (2D Output). How do I do that? In Revit, I apply a filter to Internal-Block-Walls-100, so, the filter only will lookup wall styles named Internal-Block-Walls-100 and highlight them in the model.
Hi Nasir,
Please take a look at Display Rules, these can be used to resymbolise elements based on element properties, for instance CONNECT Edition - Display Rules - Highlighting Demolitions , this may be what you need.

Marc
Isn't the OBD-way of doing this to create new Parts ?
Especially if you want it both in 3d and 2d.

Hi Thomas,
Generally yes. Display Rules offer the ability to resymbolise ranges of objects whose parts differ to visually indicate chosen properties.
Yes, I know about the Display Rules... however the problem is:
1. It does not work on a DV (plan, section) generated from the model (even DV extraction being in same file)
2. When exporting to DWG you loose the Display Rules set.
This is very frustrating, as project requires DWG outputs for sharing.
So your question is actually about how to set symbology in drawings in OpenBuildings that can be exported to DWG?
This has been asked for in the Ideas forum, go there and search for DWG, you will find "Convert Display Rules to DWG".
Linked to this idea is enhancement 663047 "WYSIWYG save to DGN/DWG using display rules" and is being worked on for a future release. The objective of this enhancement is to simplify export of views from Bentley applications.
If you wish to be advised when this enhancement is included in a commercial release please file a service request referencing this enhancement number.
In the meantime if elements that need to be colour codes are separated by level you might find that the level remapping available in DWG export could meet some of your requirement. If they are not separated by level then that will obviously not help.
