Disable compound slabs in U9?

Hello,

Is there a possibilty to disable the compound slabs in Update9 and use the "legacy" slab functionality?

I have a need for editing the form, putting slope, ... more than for a compound slap at the moment. And the "Modify Solid Entity" tools are not working on Compound Slabs.

  • Hi Johan,

Thanks for reaching out to us. I have tested this issue at my end and found out that editing the form, putting the slop option only applicable for MS slab. For Architectural and Structural Slab you can not use the 'Modify Slope' option. But you can surely modify their shapes by dragging their edge handle. Here is a short video about it.

  • Hello Shreya,

Yes I know what the limitations and possibilities are for the compound slabs. I believe development is working on sloped slabs for (one of) the next update(s).

In the meantime I'd like to know if there is any way to disable the new compound slab functionality in U9 and use the "old" architectural/structural slabs from U8 and before? I think it's quite similar to ProStructures columns/beams that were introduced in U6 or U7 which could be turned off to use Legacy elements?

    best regards,

    Johan

  • Hi Johan,

I have discussed internally this and found out you can not disable the compound slab but you can surely use the old slab from the previous update using this key-in,

    TFPLACE FORM 1SLABNEWDG

Here is a small video about it

  • Hi,

it is frustrating that the"place slab" is "forgotten", it should be a second icon in the toolbar,

There is a key in, so there is still a way to use it

My company standards are not showing up in the compound slab settings box, if I use the key in, they are available.

or: what is necessary to add the existing company slabs (single slabs) to be visible in the compound slab box.

I miss an upgrade guide: datagroups:  slab to compound slab.

BTW, if I try to search "place compoundslab" in the "search ribbon (F4)" the command is not recognized.

    regards Rik

  • Hello Kirk,

it is frustrating that the"place slab" is "forgotten", it should be a second icon in the toolbar,

The reason for not putting the old slab is intentional as moving forward there would be no more normal slabs. Everything will be a compound slab. one layer slabs will be like the older slab whereas the multiple layer slabs will get treated as Compound slab.

My company standards are not showing up in the compound slab settings box, if I use the key in, they are available.

or: what is necessary to add the existing company slabs (single slabs) to be visible in the compound slab box.

Can you please explain a bit about this? Is it that custom catalogs are not coming in the compound slab drop down?

I miss an upgrade guide: datagroups:  slab to compound slab.

Using the DG upgrade tool will upgrade the old slabs to compound slab and the corresponding catalogs will get created.

BTW, if I try to search "place compoundslab" in the "search ribbon (F4)" the command is not recognized.

Typing Slab will pop up the dialog of Place Compound Slab.

    I hope this helps you.

  • I created a custom ribbon button with the Keyin for the "old" slab, I think it's useful.

  • Hi Alifur,

    1) "place slab" is "forgotten" :  there are many other "old" commands in the app, why not this, before every one has the possibility to upgrade - and understand what is mentioned by the new tool.

    2) company standards:  how to upgrade the company dataGroupCatalog "  : now all the slabs are in the catalog "slabs.xml" - do we need to repeat every thing in the "compoundSlabs.xml" and what is changed in the CatalogItems (type: from Slab to CompoundSlab - what else?

    3) upgradetool/ guide:   for company DataGroupCatalogs
what is necessary in existing dgn files to upgrade (is company datagroups are upgraded

    4) "search ribbon (F4)" OK but why not the full command name, better both...

    ---------------

I have placed some old slaps (from "slabs" datagroup catalog) with the tool : TFPLACE FORM 1SLABNEWDG

I have upgraded the dgn with "data utilities / upgrade"

this have created new items in the datagagroup  (dgn file)

but: if I try to match the slab (compoundSlabs tool)
I've get the message: cannot create compound slab: at least 1 layer must be enabled

so: the slabs are not upgraded to compound slabs, but are still old slabs, the definition creation is not completed correct, and can not be used to place new compound slabs.

    regards Rik
