Reference files keep getting checked out/locked out

Hello to all

Connect Update 4 with Projectwise

Here is the issue

We have various 'coordination models' that are used to gather together the required models to produce Saved Views (to be placed on drawings)

We create Clip Volumes and they serve as the basis for the Saved Views.

The Saved Views are then referenced in to a 2D file.

When the Saved View is referenced in, it also then checks out the source 3D Model from Projectwise.

Quite often (but not always), when we subsequently open the 2D file, the source 3D model is then checked out again.

Occasionally it doesn't and am I'm not quite sure what the pattern of behavior is yet.

Though it does seem you only have to literally then select the reference file for it to get checked out.

Presumably this behavior is intended and is so that you can potentially make changes to the referenced in Saved View, whilst it's in the 2D file, then 'push' those changes back to the source 3D model.

This is actually quite annoying. The source 3D models (coordination models used to create Saved Views) are often used to generate numerous drawings. As such, there is a constant requirement for different people to be able to open those models and make the required adjustments to the Saved Views. But the source 3D coordination models are often checked out (and so locked) in Projectwise.

Is there any way of stopping/tuning off this behavior?

Have rummaged through the config variables and the Help Manual, but there doesn't seem to be an immediately obvious solution

Regards

  • Hi Danny, there are many ways to configure a Managed Workspace, but as best I can recall I think reference attachments are typically copied out, not checked out.  When you push a drawing-level change back to the Saved View definition, it does need to write those changes to wherever that Saved View itself is stored. So when you say the coordination models are gathered together to produce the Saved View, which I'm assuming means placing a Callout, is it only that model which is checked out or is the entire reference chain?
