Custom Catalogue Items and Definitions

I am creating some Custom Catalogue Items and adding custom definitions to the catalogue items. The steps I followed are as below.

1. Create New Definition File in Definition Editor.

2. Create Custom Properties under the new Definition File.

3. Create a New Discipline Group in Catalogue Editor.

4. Create a New Catalogue Type in New Discipline Group and applied custom properties which I created in Step 2.

5. Create a New Catalogue Item.

6. Apply Catalogue Item to 3D Smart Solids.

The question I have is related to Custom Properties, the reason I have created custom properties is to fill in the information as required and it will appear as part of BIM information. Everything is working as planned apart from one custom property (Length, as shown below image). OpenBuilding is automatically filling this information and I can't edit it. This is in one manner good, but I want to understand why OpenBuilding is filling this automatically and what other information I can set up this way that it will read element property and fill in automatically.

  • Thanks, Sandeep, apart from this list, are there any other properties that can be derived from element property or EC Shema properties?

  • Jaimin, as per as structural quantities concern, we have DG schema for structural plates / Structural slab , which can be derived from elements. Ex. Thickness, AreaTopGross, AreaTopNet , Perimeter etc defined in PlateQuantities /SlabQuantities schema.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Sandeep

  • Hi, I am still waiting to hear my last question about other standard DG properties that is calculated. For instance, placing the Architectural Profile using the please profile tool, gives PartLength as computed property, what property name should I use in the Definition edited to report on this value?

    Regards,

    Jaimin Patel

  • Hi Jaimin,

There are schema files those are meant to calculate quantities and these schema files can be found under "C:\Program Files\Bentley\OpenBuildings CONNECT Edition\OpenBuildingsDesigner\DataGroupSystem" where you will see files with the name ProfileQuantities.xsd, WallQuantities.xsd, RailingQuantities.xsd etc to get the standard DG output.

If you are creating a custom catalog for say profile, you need to add ProfileQuantities.xsd in order to get calculated output for your profiles.

Please let me know if it helps.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Sandeep
