Hi
I've added "Structural Quantities" to my walls and slabs as a catalog type definition. For walls it shows length, area and volume, but for my compound slab and compound walls it don't. Why is that?
Here a report created with the reports tool over elements in a file. Note that the wall on the last row is the compound wall with it's 3 leaves right above it, and neither the wall nor the leaves are displayed with the volumes.
I'm a structural designer and it's a mess to report volumes when beams and columns are reported one way (Structural Quantities) and walls and slabs are reported another (Quantities). I just want one unified way to report all volumes.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for reaching out to us. Can you please share your DGN file through this link below,https://bentley.sharefile.com/r-rcc89ea2e2d5e41be8dbdfcf4f562828aAlso please can you please explain your workflow in more detail? It would be good if you could share a small video of it. And which version of OpenBuildings Designer are you currently using?Regards,Shreya
Uploaded!
Not really sure I have a working workflow, that's why I'm asking for this. But the ability to create a report with volumes of both beams and slabs at the same time should be really simple.
Lets say a customer is asking for the amount off concrete in a buildings foundation. In my model, the foundation is both slabs and beams (maybe piers and other stuff as well). So right now I would have to sum them up one by one and add it together. The report tool is very powerful, but the way quantities are set up is making the report tool useless in this case.
HI Robert,
Have you looked at the general quantify tool.
this tool relies on Family and part definitions.

I had the same thought - why are people not using Quantify.
It is a very old tool but still in OBD. Question is - will it stay?
Also, will it work on Compound Walls ?

Hi Thomas,
I have asked myself that question recently as well!
The tool is so old that I have serious doubts about the future of it. Main concern is that the process is based on 'Family/Part' and the linked Report Components. All newer technology seems to focus on the datagroup catalog.
To be honest, the Quantify and Report Components was one of the things that drew us to OBD in the first place. But now I'm hesitant to use it ...
Would be good to hear from Bentley if and how they are going to continue this.
