Hello,
I'm trying to use ObjectPhasing to filter visible elements both in OBD (see other topic) as well as for the export to IFC.
It makes sense that the elements that are "Not in Contract" should also not be exported to IFC.
Is there a way to use some kind of filter on the IFC export? The only way I can think of so far is to use a Display Rule to hide them in OBD. Then select all visible elements for the export to IFC. But it's not the most intuitive workflow. Is there another way?
An option to "Convert display rule to IFC export" would be nice, similar to the "Convert display rule to DWG" Idea for Microstation that has been voted for numeruous times.
Hi Johan,Can you please tell us is there any particular type of element you want to filter like the architectural, structural, or mechanical? Or it can be any type of element?Regards,Shreya
Hi Shreya,
In this particular case it's mechanical elements that must be filtered out (pipes, pipe fittings). But the same model also contains structural elements like walls and floors (though from different attached references).
It should be possible to use it on any kind of element! Similar to my request for the display rules (see this topic).
I'm trying not compare with competitor products, but the kind of functionality I'm looking for is available at least in one of them. I use(d) it very regularly!
I agree it is it would be good to be able to filter what is coming over to the ifc.
Is it possible to use an empty file and reference what is desired for that purpose? Only visible elements in view x gets exported.
Turn off levels and references, attach by Saved View, Named Group, DHevent etc.

Turned-off references are not included in the export. I'm not sure about levels, didn't try that (or don't remember). View display is ignored so you'd have to check with 'global display' for disabling the levels!
One alternative is always to make a displayset of any other way to create a selection set. Then do the export, only selected elements will be exported. But it's not the best way in a dynamic situation.
I also thought of creating my own ribbon button based on keyins. Then I'd need two actions:
=> Since I couldn't figure out how to make the selection I don't think this is a solution right now.
ctrl-A ?
