OpenBuildings Designer CONNECT Update 7 - Version 10.07.00.105
I'm working on a large infrastructure project through Projectwise.
To start working I double click on a .dgn file in PW. When I want to open the next .dgn I select "File" at the top left.
The "Open" window then appears with the message "You haven't opened any files ..." and a browse buttton.
Browsing for the next file in a very complex PW folder structure is incredibly time consuming.
So, quite simply, I want the program to remember my recently opened files (as many of them as possible) so that I can jump between files with ease.
I remember in the past a setting which allowed me to change the number of recent files displayed.
Every place I have ever worked has allowed me to pick a previously edited file without browsing to it.
Likewise I'd like the program to remember the last reference I attached and start there the next time I want to attach a reference.
When I attach any reference now, the browser starts at the same folder which is buried deep in the folder structure.
I first have to climb up 7 levels before I can start climbing down to the directories containing my reference files.
Thanks.
Hi Fraser,
To be clear, you're opening files using ProjectWise Explorer but then want to use OBD's File list to go back into PW and open the same previously opened files?
I open the first file in the morning by double clicking on it in PW Explorer. When I want to open another file I go to "File" at top left of OBD (if I double click on another in PWE I get 2 sessions of OBD which I don't want) When I choose "File" I do not get a list of previously opened files - instead I only get the option to Browse for a file.. When I press this button, it opens PWE for me to spend the next 10 minutes navigating around looking for a file (even one which I edited 10 mins before) I just want OBD to remember what files I've been opening recently and what refs I've been attaching recently. Everywhere else I've ever worked has this set in OBD. Sorry but the mention of PWE is a red herring here. Some setting has been set or unset in OBD which stops it offering me my previous 10 files or remembering the last ref I attached. I am sorry but by trying to be clear I have made a really simple question sound complicated. Summary : All my files are in PW. OBD does not list the last 10 I've opened. When I attach a reference PW browser opened by OBD starts off in a really obscure and never used folder located deep in the folder structure. Even in the same session, if I try to attach a file again 2 mins after I just attached it, the first place I'm taken is this obscure directory. Can you please concentrate on the OBD settings related to listing previously opened files and previously attached refs.
Hi Steve.
Do you have a solution to this ? I answered you question 9 days ago.
Basically I spend more than half my day opening each file from scratch.
Thanks,
Fraser
I know nothing about PW Explorer. This is a OBD Forum, perhaps there is a Forum for PW.
Anyway, I mostly use drag and drop from Windows Explorer. Perhaps you can try that.

Sorry, I had a few ideas but just hadn't had time to test them. But now that I've gone thru the process I'm afraid I just can't reproduce what you're describing. Instead, when I choose a previous DGN from the File tab (also from PW) I get the typical Check-In dialog where I can either check in or free up the active DGN file before moving to that next file. FWIW I tried this with Desktop Integration both enabled and disabled but the results were the same.
So, in order to further troubleshoot it's probably best to either open Service Request with support, or, as Thomas suggested you could pose this question on the ProjectWise forums to see whether anyone has any suggestions or ideas.
