Hello,
I would need to create doors and windows with parametric cells (CEL file), to place them on walls similar to PAZ cells.
I do not see any example in the catalog delivered with the program. Only PAZ and BXC files exist
I also haven't found any videos explaining the process to create doors and windows with parametric cells.
Is it possible to create doors and windows with parametric cells (CEL file), with the OBD version up9.1, include them in the catalog and place them on walls?
Thank you
Antonio

Hello Antonio,
Yes you can create parametric door & windows and place them on walls as required. Please check the below examples for reference.

Hope this helps you to get started with the door creation.

Hi Alifur, thanks for the information.
I have tried what he indicates in this publication that he indicated to me.
It doesn't seem to work properly.
I have created a cell. (red= model view, black=top view and green=front view)
If I place the cell as a parametric cell it seems all right. Driller is not displayed
If I place the cell from the catalog the perforator is displayed. This is incorrect.
See image
When I want to get a plan view. The model, top, front and perforator views appear. This is incorrect.
Only the PAZ cell works well
If I modify the width of the door, they change the width of all the doors, but only in the section.
...This does not work correctly. It can not be used to place doors and windows. PAZ files are the ones that currently work.
Is there a solution that I can use to use parametric cells in doors and windows or it just doesn't work currently?
Thanks, i will test when I have the chance and get back to you. Could you provide the file with wall and cell placed also please.
Wall & Door.dgn
I have tested and the result, with result below:
To insert the element through the "Catalog" I had to create a new Catalog Type with the "ParaDef" property added. Though I have set the tool template to "Place door" it doesn't come up in the window for door creation. So I had to go to "Place Object" to find it.
In both cases when I try to alter the dimensions after placement the result looks like this:
I changed the parameters "HL = 1500" and "WL = 1900". The perforator is not being modified, and when looking at the properties both instances show different things:
Placed as cell:
=> HF and WP have not been adapted, so it corresponds with what I am seeing on screen. However since they are greyed out, I can't adapt them manually. It makes sence, since they are defined based on the Item Type expression. But then they should go along with the updated values for HL and WL.
When placed as DG "Object":
=> Yellow marking are the values I adapted manually. Green marking is the values that have been updated automatically (although I see them as editable values) thanks to the Item Type expressions.
However also here the perforator of the cell hasn't been adapted according to the new values. So it's basically useless ...
I noticed the door's geometry doesn't show in Front/Top/... view. But in Top view I also don't see the added geometry which I should. I'm not seeing the perforator as geometry, so that's a good thing already.
Attaching my sample model for those interested

I opened this file and it looks OK in model, though the drawing shows the same errors as explained above.
However, is this inserted as a parametric cell? Which of the door's attributes should I change to alter the dimensions of the door?
Hello Johan, to place the door in the catalog you must place the file MyDoor.cel in any folder of ATFDIR_DOOR
If you put MyDoor.cel in ...\cell it will not appear in the door catalog
If you don't see the perforator it's because constructions are disabled in that view. If you activate the constructions view attribute you will see the perforator again.
However, in cut plan you see "model" presentation name when you should only see the "top" presentation name.
When I changed the dimension of a door, all the doors in the section were changed.
Ducan already said it, this has a defect.

Antonio.
Hello, I see another additional problem.
When the parametric cell is placed, the level of all elements is the active level. It does not preserve the levels when the cell was created.
For example, the plan view of a window can have the window symbol on one level and the window opening rotation on another level.
When we place a window, we can deactivate the opening rotation of the window as we need for the drawing.
With parametric cells you can't. Everything is set equal to the active level of the model where it is placed. The original cell levels are not preserved.
This can be done with nonparametric cells, BXC cells, and PAZ cells.
I don't see any option to preserve the levels that were created in the parametric cell. This will also be a problem.
Regards.
Is it possible someone can post some parametric doors windows and other objects as templates to use
Many thanks

This is an issue indeed! I'm not an expert with cells in general. Is this the default Microstation behaviour for parametric cells compared to "normal" cells?

I'll try this, thanks!

Hi Johan, I don't think it's the default behavior, it just doesn't work properly. When a parametric cell is placed it keeps the colors of the cell but the levels change to the active level of the model where the parametric cell is placed. It is what happens to me.
this behavior occurred in MS a few versions back with parametric cells but has since been rectified in U16 /17
