Creating angle in the slab

Hi,

I am new to OpenBuildings designer and have multiple questions regrading the slab tool:

1- How to create an angle in the slab from one end only? like the one below.

2- How to create a slab that have different thickness and sloping at the same time?

Thanks,

  • Hi Ahmed,

    The first example I think should not be done with a single element. I'm speaking from a contractor's point of view where we would have reasons to split this element:

    • Either it's a "slab edge" where only the edges are with greater thickness (because of frost, or maybe because of structural reasons). In reality we might want to cast the bottom part in a first pour, then the top with constant thickness in a second pour. Then it is realistic to also split the BIM model in the same way because it will have different classification, different cost, ... I think we do miss the correct tools to easily model this kind of slab edge with the mitre side. You could use Structural Beams with a custom shape though;
    • It might also be two slabs with different thickness that are adjoining each other, then use the mitre angle instead of a "straight" drop between thicknesses. Also here as a contractor I want the two elements to be separated in my BIM model. Because I need both area as well as volume to make calculation of efficiency, ... I must say I wouldn't know how to achieve this mitred edge in an easy way in OBD;

    The second case is something else. There I agree that the single slab should have a sloped top. In some cases might be that the slab is parallel (ie. the bottom has the same slope). In this case the bottom is horizontal.

    With 'Legacy' slabs there is/was an option to change a single edge or even point of a slab element. Compound slabs (in Update 9 and Update 10 this is the default type of slab) don't have this option yet, as far as I am aware.

    Within my projects I do use Compound Slabs as much as possible, but for situations like this I still use the 'Legacy' slab. This thread deals with how to use those legacy slabs in the latest versions of OBD: Disable compound slabs in U9? - OpenBuildings | AECOsim | Speedikon | Forum - OpenBuildings | AECOsim | Speedikon - Bentley Communities
