Hello,
Does anybody know if it is possible to create openings in Structural Elements (PS members) with a specified depth? The 'Cut Openings' tool always goes through the entire element.
This also translates to the IFC export, see screenshot example below. When visualising the ifcOpening elements they are very large.
In Slabs this also happens when using the "Punch Through" setting of the new Punch Opening tool for Compound slabs. But there is also an option to specify the depth of the opening, either dynamic or with a specified value.
Use the legacy "cut solid by curve" tool and you can control the cut depth. I haven't tested with IFC export yet.

Hi Tuan,
Thanks for the information. It's strange though that the "new" tool has less functionality than the Legacy tool ..
When exporting to IFC the openings created with "cut solid by curve" are subtracted from the column/beam. But it doesn't create any ifcOpening elements. So also there, it's not really ideal.
I think I'll create an Idea for improvement of the new tool.
Tell me about it. It's come to a point where I feel it almost worth it to pay extra for V8i licence and keep plugging along rather than messing about with transition the whole team over to CE.
Do you mean in regard to structural elements specifically? Or CE in general?
I think it is still possible to activate the "legacy" structural elements. I know it was in U7/U8 because I was advised about it by our local reseller. I stuck to the PS elements though because I didn't want to start new software adoption with using legacy tools.
It's a combination of PS elements and CE platform. But that's story for another day.

Sure, I didn't want to go into that. Was just curious if the PS elements was such a major factor for you. It isn't for me :)
