In Grid systems menu there is a possibity to import XML files. But I receive IFC or RVT files. And mostley there is a grid IFCGrid. Is it possible to import this IFCGrid into OpenBuilding and also the levels of the floor in the floor manager. Because this information is already in the file. And this is the I of BIM. And when the grid is not horizontal or vertical. How to create this grid system.
Hi Andy,
Can you please try to convert the IFC file into a DGN file using the Batch Converter? Please refer to the screengrab below.
Then use the transformed DGN file in OBD for the grids.
HTH!

Hello Andy,
there is this idea, recently created: Grid Systems and Floor manager | OpenBuildings Ideas Portal (aha.io) It's the same topic to import IFC or RVT grids.
When you speak of not horizontal or vertical, there are some options. You can choose from those options:
I have already use Othogonal and Radial myself. Orthogonal can be moved and/or rotated if you want. It can be done with the values but it's better to use the Modify => Grid orientation (if you have an IFC, iModel, DWG, ... underlay):
To be clear, as long as grids are perpendicular, use the Orthogonal option! Doesn't matter if you need to rotate them so that they aren't horizontal/vertical anymore.
I haven't used the 2axis / 3axis options myself because I never needed to. So can't comment on that :)
Looks like a single deviating grid (for example if one wall needs to fit with an existing building at a just-not-90deg angle) isn't possible out of the box. But you can always create an additional grid system with just this single grid line.
Hello Sayan,
This is a new tool for me to use. Thank you very much. I will use it for all my projects. Because I don't have to do the converting one by one.
So it is very help[full!
You're welcome. Glad to be of help!
Please use Sketch option for non standard girds, where you have full control of how you want to create your grids using any grid lines/arcs
