Create Building View & Drawing

I think there is a little bug with the above command.

When I have a model I use the icon "Floor Plan View". Then I try the icon "Create Building View & Drawing". This works nicely except when I tick the option Open Drawing: the sheet is opened and is OK but when I go back to my model the clip volume is no longer applied.

Can you reproduce this?

Thanks for looking into this,

  • If you want to see the clip volume, go to the Save View dialog and click on the Show column for the Saved View in question.  That will display the section clip (the white rectangle), and clicking on it will display the clip volume.   By default, the creating of a Building View will turn off the display of the section clip / volume itself in the main model, mainly so that it doesn't (re)display in the resulting Building View.

Or at least I think this is what you mean...?

  • Steve,

I know this. But my problem is as in attached file: in the model I have no more hatchings etc after the command "Create Building View & Drawing" when "Open drawing" is ticked. When "Open drawing" is not ticked you keep the hatchings etc in the model. Is that clearer?

  • Ahhh....  I totally missed that it's the actual Saved View graphics that's missing from the 3D model...

Luc, just for my own curiosity...    Are you wanting to create a Building View and then also have it attached to a specific view window in the 3D model, sort of like an automatic Multi-Model view?

  • Steve,

I don't think this is the reason. I tried the same workflow now but with a save settings before I use "Create Building View & Drawing": same result: no hatchings or line thickness in my model as in the attachment of my original post.

Did you try the workflow I described in my first post?

  • I had to use delivered parts since I don't have yours, but I think it's behaving correctly.   See the two attached images - in the first one I'm selecting your Building View "Untitled" from the View Attributes dialog, from View 1 in the Default model.  The second screen capture shows the results of that operation - hatched walls.

I believe this is the way it's meant to work; i.e., a Building View has attributes beyond that of the Saved View, so should be explicitly selected as such using the above.   Of course, I could be totally mistaken...  :-P

  • Steve,

What you shows me is correct: when you apply the created Building View "untitled" I have my hatchings back.

But what my point is: the Building View should be automatically applied after using the command "Create Building View & Drawing" with "Open Drawing" ticked... Now, when I return to my model, my hatchings have gone and I have to reapply the created Building View.

Just one step to much ànd confusing for less experienced users.

I hope this makes some sense...

  • Hmmm...  I suppose that could qualify as a Change Request, however, the workflow where something like this could pose a problem is when someone creates a BV, opens the BV model, then navigates back to the 3D model to create additional BVs.  If the first BV was automatically attached, a manual detachment would be required each and every time.  So it's more or less a catch-22 depending on your preference.

Overall, I guess I'm not sure which would be the more common workflow.   Comments welcome.    :)
