Hi,
Is it possible to use an access database to puplate the information in an architectural or structural datagroup item? Like we have with pipes for example, where we choose the database and select from a list of items that exist in that database...
Funny thing, I've tried the "add instance data" tool with a straight pipe, on a simple microstation solid, and using this tool I don't get access to the database... nor if I try to modify it's instance data after-the-fact.
Hi Pedro,
Can you please provide us a screengrab of the issue after using the add instance data on the solid and not getting access to to the list? Also, can you please explain what you meant by database?
Regards,Sayan
Hi Sayan,
What I mean is something like placing a pipe. When we place a pipe, we select a catalog and then we can see that catalog directly in OBD and select a corresponding element. Something like the image bellow, where I press that extra arrow next to XXXX and I can see the catalog:
I would like that, but for an architectural object, like a door or, a window, or a tree or a bush or whatever. What I mean by database is simply an Access file, like the ones supplied for the pipes.
Here is the issue with the add-instance-data. I don't have that little arrow to have access to the database:

Thanks for the clarification.
Unfortunately for Architectural elements we don't have any database but you can update/add the data by using the Schedules.
But this looks like a good enhancement for OBD. So, please share you idea in our Ideas Portal from this link- https://openbuildings.ideas.aha.io/

Thanks for the answer.
Ill add it to the ideas.
Any take on the fact that the tool doesn't work the same if we are adding instance data?
Yes, I have also created a new block and added the Straight Pipe instance data and then when I modified the block and selected any of the Manufacturer Catalog I can see that the little dropdown bar beside the catalog name is not appearing. Please refer to the screengrab below.
So, let me have some discussion with our Dev team regarding this I'll update you accordingly.
