Hello,
When users on my site try to use Spaces tool (create space) it either reverts (the window shows for a short time then disappears) to the default Element select tool, or couses application hang with report send. Choosing any other tool from the spaces menu works ok.
Using
MS 08.11.05.17
Architectural 08.11.05.52
The problem is also there with the latest Beta versions
[EDIT] In the meen time i've noticed this thred (http://communities.bentley.com/products/building/building_analysis___design/f/5917/t/35523.aspx) and yes I have spaces defined.
[Edit] Ok i know why the tool closes jus after I open it. If the user was using an item for the space that is not existent for the current user (workspace) then the tool will automatically close.
But how to diagnose what causes the tool to crush the application?
Could you elaborate on your second edit?
Sorry I was in a hurry and did not write as exactly I should. Secondly please have understanding if I write something stupid, or obvious because I'm not a designer or architect that is working with MS or BA just a it worker that is entrusted with dealing with problems in those application. I'm currently rather closer to dealing with problems and configuration of ProjectWise Server (and other server side Bentley Apps - thanks to great support from Lithuanian Bentley Support Team), then other Bentley applications.
I had two different problems with the same tool, and I did find a solution to my first problem.
First one: The Create space tool switches back to element selection right after it is selected. - It's related with different user configuration of the workspace. The program has the tendency to remember configuration it was last set to despite the fact it might not be valid for a different user workspace configuration (to be exact, if on one user workspace configuration the space tool is using a cell that is not defined on a different user workspace configuration then the tool will just close).
Second: When using the tool it has a almost 100% tendency to hang the application (sometimes when the create tool is selected, sometimes when a space is placed in the design). It has to have some relation with the workspace, because it does not occurs on all configurations, but how to find where the problem is. The exeptation log is currently unreadable for me, and I don't even know f it contains informations that I need.
I could of course report that to the support (the application does hang) but if its a workspace configuration error then learning how to deal with such problems would be better in the long-term.
MarcinN:Sadly I don't have such settings in my users ucf's. I do store most of the workspace on network (via paths and settings in user configs - otherwise syncing the whole workspace would be a Sisyphean labor) but the worspace itself is installed locally.
That doesn't make sense, you say the most of the workspace is on the network, but then say it is installed locally. It might not be the exact config as I had it, but sounds like you have a degree of confusion in your set-up. Does the space tool work when installed straight out of the box, with no network redirects etc... ?

That is probably the best bet.
If something is not working out of the box - that normally would - it may indicate that a reinstall is in order. However, if it's limited to a custom network dataset, then it's more likely to be a configuration issue of some kind.
