this error seems to be knocking out the antialias of Bentley Architecture in windows 7 - AA is something one can't work without - can't imagine that everyone using windows7 or vista is not using proper AA - either there is something in windows that is blocking the ActiveX from performing AA or there must be a patch available - please advise .
Ron.
Could you provide more detail as to what you are doing when the error occurs?
Also, do you get the same error without Architecture loaded?
When I open Architecture (latest Beta and previous versions , Microstation simply does not have any AA at all - same on Vista .
It looks very much like a Bentley software problem in Windows7 - I can now confirm that Anti Aliasing is working on Windows7 - just not in Mstn and BA .
Lets hope there will be solution found and included in the next software release before things get too jaggered.
I have just experienced identical 428 error on launch of BA following a new install of MS and BA with a new Win7 installation.
Hardware is a Dell Precision T7400 with 8GB RAM and an Nvidia Quadro FX4600.
I also don't have anti-aliasing in MS or in BA except in wireframe mode. I am working in 3D of course!
I fired up sketchup and that is antialiasing though I believe that uses the openGL functions of the card.

The situation has become unacceptable as all my BIM production has ground to a halt and if I continue without AA I shall go blind.
If the folks at Bentley think it´s caused by our hardware we are all in very big trouble.
DirectX AA is working perfectly in 3dsMAX 2010 Windows7 - it is application controlled where as if one turns on AA in Mstn. nothing happens.
Also I had AA working on my XP64 SCSI unit until I had to install the latest prerequisite pack indicating to me there is something wrong with that install .

I would recommend posting this to the MicroStation Forum. If AA is not working for you in core MicroStation, it follows that the behavior in Bentley Architecture would be the same. But *why* it's not working in MicroStation is a question better suited for our Platform group - they're likely to be more familiar with various graphics card/driver/OS combinations. Plus, if you've found that the Prerequisite Pack is for some reason changing this behavior, they certainly need to know!
Steve,
Whilst I am not going blind yet, surely it would be more appropriate for you to pass this TR on to the relevant indivduals in platform. I think it has been covered in reasonable detail, and it clearly is an issue for a number of people. By all means include our contact details.
I think you are in a better position to (a) direct it to the correct person or team and (b) avoid the need for the group of respondant sto go through the same process. We have all made an investment of time to provide this infromation. It is not reasonable to expect us to do it again with a different team.

Edit: Just to clarify my suggestions below... this was not a recommendation to use the MicroStation forum for every issue, regardless of the topic. I only suggested the MicroStation forum in this specific case because the issue does not appear to be caused by running a building application. And since it does seem to be something inherint to core MicroStation itself, the best location for that discussion would be the MicroStation forum. However, if the issue occurred only while running Bentley Architecture, then that would be a different scenario, one that would not be well suited for the MicroStation forum - most MS users are probably not familiar with BArch or any other building app.
I hope this helps.
PS... I have asked for help from our Platform support group as well.
Hi All,
My suggestion to (re)post this item to the MicroStation Forum was based on a few aspects:
- The MicroStation Forum holds the largest number of readers/posters of any one group, and therefore is the most likely to get a response... power in numbers.
- I cannot reproduce the issue on my end, therefore I have no TR to report. In order to properly review any given issue there has to be some specific sequence of steps, files, other other data for our development group to pursue. I do not have that, nor can I reproduce it for anyone else to see.
- Because of the above, it doesn't make sense for me to post since I have nothing to offer... since I cannot reproduce it. And just to be clear, it's not been identified as a TR...at least not yet. But If someone/anyone who can reproduce this issue were to report it on the MicroStation Forum, perhaps that discussion will lead to something more.
- I will, however, point our Platform support group to this thread. I'd imagine they may ask to to continue the discussion on the MicroStation Forum as well, but I will make them aware either way!
No, I absolutely cannot, and I do apologise if it came off that way.
This issue appears to be a result of some interaction between the OS, your graphics card/driver, and MicroStation itself. And if that's the case, then Bentley Architecture/BIM would appear to be a non-factor in the equation. And if that is also correct, the issue really needs to be investigated and addressed from a core MicroStation perspective.
Again, sorry if I was muddying the waters!
