When a dynamic view (i.e. Floor Plan cut) is viewed or plotted from basic MicroStation, without being in the BArch environment, we do not get the re-symbolization. In fact, during printing the file just locks up. Not all our other engineering disciplines have BArch, but they use the Architect's Floors or Building Sections as backgrounds for their discipline work. Now they are at a standstill, and only the Architects can print their sheets. Some of the Engineers have Bentley Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical, but using these BIM Apps still do not display or plot the BArch DVs. I would at least think that all the BIM Apps work together. I thought one of the Bentley themes was "working together" and "interoperability". What gives? Does anyone have a solution without reverting back to extractions?
It's difficult to tell for sure, but my first guess would be that BA parts are being used for resymbolozation, and that those parts are missing from the other building datasets... and of course from MicroStation (which doesn't use parts).
If you need a "portable" version of a DV, I would recommend exporting a "vectorized" version by performing a Save As V8 with "Merge Visible Edges of 3D Attachments" toggled ON from the References tab and only the applicable sheet model selected from the Filter tab.
Steve --- Nope, what we need is a live reference file DV
Our family and parts are performing the re-symbolization for the most part I suppose, ans we are using a common F&P and datagroup for all the BIM disciplines, as they apply to each. Everything is in-house and we have no need or time to make portable versions of our files.
Can we file a TR for this?
Are you saying that the required parts *are* available to each building product? If so, then yes, I would think the resymbolization should be happening, not that I've done any extensive testing in this area.
This would not apply to plain MicroStation, of course.
Steve -- yes that is what I am saying. The problem is that the DV Architectural Rules are not persistent when the file is opened in one of the other BIM applications. Thus the parts are not re-symbolized or cleaned-up. Example: a CMU wall no longer shows the hatching and the intersections are not cleaned-up. As I undersatnd it, currently Structural and Mechanical applications do not support even their own DV rules. Once they do, will they acknowledge the rules of the other disciplines?
Go ahead and test it yourself and let me know if there is a solution. Is there a TR or CR on this? Thanks, Myron
And this even gets worse wehn you
1. Get BIM files , cells, curtainwalls, etc from the web theylook awful
2. Work with others as most are still not BIM and many are other products like Autocad.
We currently have to create a Dynamic view for all my work and the sheets I create but also create a
Extraction file for all my Engineers: one is MS only and the other is Autocad.
That is also my cnncern that it was once said that extractions would be removed from the product.
